Lauryn Hill may be back on the big screen soon if Rita Marley, widow of reggae icon Bob Marley, has her way. According to Billboard, Marley wants Lauryn to play her.
"Lauryn would be ideal [to play me]" said Marley, who is executive producing the first-ever biopic of her late husband. Her husband's son with Janet Hunt, Rohan, is married to Ms. Hill. "She sees my life as her life."
The movie will be an adaptation of Rita Marley's 2004 book No Woman No Cry: My Life With Bob Marley. The script is currently being written by Lizzie Borden, who is currently in Jamaica completing it.
The project is tentatively set to begin filming early next year, and is projected to have a late 2009 release date. Producer Rudy Langlais says the film will be an "epic romance," which includes the Marley's life and the assassination attempt on them. "It's miraculous that Rita is still here after being shot in the head," said Langlais.
The project will be shot in Jamaica as well as other locations, and Marley will be played by two actors - one portraying him at age 15, and another as an adult. Marley even suggested her grandson Stefan, whom she says is "the spitting image" of the singer.
"Every inch of me is in there," says Marley, "and I don't want a fairy tale or Cinderella story."
